'Flappy Bird' brought back as an arcade game

Flappy Bird

The once mobile game sensation that took over the whole world is now coming back as an arcade game. The "Flappy Bird" arcade game will still feature its highly addictive format.

Arcade manufacturer Bay Tek owns a listing for a licensed "Flappy Bird" arcade cabinet. The Flappy Bird listing is "Video Redemption" game, which means that gamers will earn tickets after every pipe they successfully pass. The game will also store the daily and all-time high scores. The arcade cabinet measures 91 inches with a 42-inch screen, which is similar to other arcade games. The large screen shows the same orientation, and the player can control the flapping of the bird through a big red button, which is the only controller in the game.

This is not the first time that mobile games were syndicated into arcade-type video games. Hit titles like "Temple Run" and "Doodle Jump" were already serialized in arcade houses.

"Flappy Bird" took the mobile game industry by storm when it became a big hit last year following its release as a free-to-play gaming app. Although the idea of the game is simple, which is to pass through as many pipes as possible, it is quite difficult and highly addictive. Players take pride in their high scores.

The game reportedly brought in $50,000 advertising daily. However, the game and its Vietnamese developer suffered criticisms when the game started to become very popular. This prompted its creator Dong Nguyen to pull out the game.

The sudden absence of the game opened an opportunity for some developers to salvage "Flappy Bird" and make it available in various platforms. In addition, Code.org even offered a 15-minute tutorial on how one can create a "Flappy Bird" clone.

Nguyen brought "Flappy Bird" back in August last year packed with new features like a multiplayer feature. The Vietnamese game maker also went on to create another hit mobile game "Swing Copters" that garnered 35,000 customer reviews on iOS.
