'Final Fantasy 7' remake release date: 2016 is a 'year of preparations'

"Final Fantasy VII" remake is one of the most anticipated games from Square Enix, but a release date for the game has not been announced yet.

Fans have been patiently waiting for this game, but unfortunately, a release won't be happening this year. It was Square Enix's producer Yoshinori Kitase who revealed to Famitsu magazine, as reported by Siliconera, that this year will be all about preparations.

"I believe that this year will still be a year of preparations for Final Fantasy VII Remake. I'd like to create a new kind of value for the hardware that is the PlayStation 4 for our next announcement," Kitase said.

It's only fitting that Square Enix would take more time to prepare the game. After all, it was already announced in a press release last December that "Final Fantasy VII" remake will be a "multi-part series" game, "with each entry providing its own unique experience."

Kitase also explained in a blog post on the Square Enix website the reason why the team did not decide on making a remake until late last year. He revealed that it was a challenge to reconstruct the content using new technology.

"Producing a proper HD remake of FINAL FANTASY VII that maintains the same feeling of density of the original would result in a volume of content that couldn't possibly fit into one instalment," Kitase added.

Meanwhile, "Final Fantasy VII" remake will not only be released in several parts but will also have full voice acting. As previously reported, the same voice actors used in "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" will be used for the remake, but new voice actors will also be hired for characters that weren't featured in the film.

As for the release date, nothing has been set on stone for now, but reports speculate that the game will likely arrive sometime in 2018.
