During the recently concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015, Bethesda game director Todd Howard confirmed that "Fallout 4" would still support user-created mods. He also stated that these mods would not just be available for the PC version but also for the Xbox One. Now, it now appears that the PS4 version might also support mods but the decision is entirely up to Sony.
"We will be. Well, we're going to make every effort to. If Sony says no, we won't, but I don't think they will," Howard explained, cited by a report from Digital Spy. "But, you know, it will come out on PC first. So early 2016, the creation mod for the PC, and then we're going to make that work on the Xbox One, and then we're going to do the PS4 version."
Howard also confirmed in the report that "Fallout 4" would not support paid mods. Bethesda previously attempted to launch paid mods on Valve's online gaming network Steam but this new system was immediately taken down due to negative backlash and complications regarding royalties on shared assets.
According to a report from Cinema Blend, it is very likely that mods will be approved for the PS4 version of the game. The report explains that Sony would not pass up on the opportunity to allow mods on their console since it would help boost sales for their system and the game itself against the Xbox One.
It also prolongs the game's longevity and can help new gamers choose one version over the other. If Sony won't allow "Fallout 4" mods to be implemented, then a first time gamer might buy an Xbox One simply because of the additional options they will have.
The report does cite that the only reason Sony would be apprehensive of allowing mods on the PS4 version of "Fallout 4" is the concern over game stability. Not all mods are made equal and some could cause severe game-breaking crashes and glitches when implemented.
"Fallout 4" is scheduled for release this November for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
