Dunkin' Donuts releases festive Christmas 'Joy' cups in sharp contrast to Starbucks' plain red cups

A lot of people got very upset when Starbucks introduced its new "minimalist" holiday cup design, showing only the company's logo in a plain red background. In previous years, its holiday cup showed snowflakes, ornaments, and other holiday decorations in celebration of Christmas.

Starbucks reasoned that its plain red cup is a reflection of "the simplicity and quietness" of the holiday season.

"It's (a) more open way to usher in the holiday," Starbucks' vice president of design Jeffrey Fields explained. "This year we wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories."

Dunkin' Donuts did not want to upset its Christmas-minded customers, so it proudly released a white cup with a wreath design and the word "Joy" emblazoned on it.

Fox News reports said some customers suspect that Dunkin' Donuts is taking a jab at Starbucks.

Erik Bransteen commented on Twitter: "Dunkin Donuts new slogan: 'Dunkin Donuts: Jesus Doesn't Hate Our Coffee Cups.'"

Meanwhile, Miss Kitty Holmes posted photos of Dunkin' Donuts' and Starbucks' Christmas cups side by side and then captions it, "Ooooooo Shots Fired!!! GG Dunkin wins!!"

Others, however, were just happy that companies are still promoting the spirit of Christmas. A Twitter user named Tim wrote, "No cup controversy here, @DunkinDonuts just wants to spread JOY!!! Love It!!!"

Raheem Kassam wrote in an article for Breitbart News that the only way Starbucks can appease its customers is if it "prints Bible verses on their cups next year."

Even Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump is thinking of boycotting Starbucks because the company is purportedly waging a war against Christmas.

"Did you read about Starbucks? No more merry Christmas on Starbucks," Trump said on Monday evening during the pre-debate rally in Springfield, Illinois. "Maybe we should boycott Starbucks. I don't know. Seriously, I don't care."
