Young British women want to look like Cheryl Cole and have the talent of Beyoncé, while the Duchess of Cambridge is the woman they most admire.

That's according to a survey of 1,800 women between the ages of 18 and 30 conducted by women's car insurance specialist Diamond.

The survey also found that more than a quarter (27%) of young women follow their favourite celebrities on social media, and just under one in 10 (9%) admit to being obsessed with celebrity culture.

Almost a quarter (23%) try to look as good as celebrities and a similar number (24%) even base their look on pictures of celebrities.

Almost a quarter of women (24%) would like to live the celebrity life, with money being seen as the biggest perk of being a celebrity, followed by always being groomed and having nice clothes.

More women were attracted to a quiet life in the countryside with their family though (37%), than living in a Hollywood mansion (11%) or clubbing in Ibiza or Chelsea (6%). The country life also trumped a villa on a Caribbean beach (17%) and a New York loft apartment (16%).

Most of the women surveyed think that to live the celebrity life would require earnings of at least £331,000 a year, while nearly a third (30%) thought they would need more than £1m.

Natalie Grimshare, spokesperson for Diamond said: "There's little doubt that most celebrities lead privileged lives so it's perhaps not surprising many young women covet their looks, talent, and lifestyle.

"But despite reality TV and its stars having such a high profile in the UK, the reality star lifestyle doesn't seem to be much of a draw for the young women we questioned.

"A quarter of women told us they would like to live the celeb lifestyle but a very small number have actually applied to appear on a reality show."
