When the Japanese animated series "Dragon Ball Super" started, fans only knew Goku and Vegeta as Saiyans. But later on, their offsprings and ancestors were added to the list. Recently, creator Akira Toriyama revealed something about Saiyans that will surprise fans.

In an interview with Saikyo Jump, Toriyama talked about the franchise. Although the full interview is not yet published, fan-translators like Todd Blakenship were quick to provide English versions of it. The comments of Toriyama provided light on some questions that have been a source of debate among fans.

When asked if anyone who trains can become a Super Saiyan, Toriyama said that it does not work that way. He said that becoming a Super Saiyan is not about training or anger. One needed to have S-Cells in the body in order to achieve the form. Most Saiyans have S-Cells in varying quantity. This explains why Goku and Vegeta's children were able to go Super Saiyan since S-Cells were passed to them. When a certain number of S-Cells are reached, it will result in a physical transformation.

But many wonder why the Saiyans in Universe 6 are strong despite the lack of training. Toriyama explained that the best way to increase S-Cells is by having a gentle spirit. Universe 7 Saiyans only know torment and anger because of Freeza's rule. However, Universe 6 Saiyans live a more gentle and passive life. This explains why Kale is very strong because of her meek and gentle attitude.

Toriyama also revealed a little history about Saiyans. He said that the first Saiyan is named Yamoshi. He lived on Planet Vegeta prior to its destruction. Yamoshi had a righteous heart and he first transformed when he and his five friends were cornered by warriors.

Despite his power, Yamoshi was defeated and he wandered as a spirit while searching for six righteous-hearted Saiyans. He was also looking for a new savior, which is the Super Saiyan God. There is no record yet about what happened to Yamoshi during his search.

"Dragon Ball Super" airs every Sunday at 8:15 p.m. on Fuji TV.
