'Dragon Age: Knights Errant,' 'Mass Effect: Discovery' release date, news: spring 2017 arrival for new comic books

"Dragon Age: Inquisition," the latest game in the series Bioware, EA

Dark Horse comics, known for popular comic books such as "Sin City" and "Hellboy," held a recent panel prior to the official start of the New York Comic-Con. During this panel, they presented two new graphic novel series, "Dragon Age: Errant" and "Mass Effect: Discovery.

Both series are based on popular games from Bioware, with "Dragon Age" being a dark-fantasy RPG that is seen as a spiritual successor to "Baldur's Gate," while the "Mass Effect" series is an action-RPG science-fiction series with a heavy emphasis on player choices.

"Mass Effect: Discovery," as per IGN, will be released in spring 2017. The story will be done by "Mass Effect: Andromeda" creative director Mac Walters, lead writer John Dombrow, and Jeremy Barlow, the writer for the "Mass Effect: Foundation" comics. Art will be done by Gabriel Guzman.

"Dragon Age: Knights Errant" will have its first issue released on May 10, 2017. Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir have been billed as the writers, and art will be done Fernando Heinz Furukawa, with the covers done by Sachin Teng. An adult coloring book was also announced by Dark Horse, and it will be launched on Feb. 8, 2017.

It is noted that "Mass Effect: Discovery" is part of the Mass Effect Andromeda Program, a collection of numerous media connected to the upcoming video game, "Mass Effect: Andromeda." This includes an adult coloring book, an art book, and a poster collection.

Fans have speculated that these new comic books are going to be released in preparation for new games. "Mass Effect: Andromeda" is a given since the game is scheduled to launch next year, but fans have also speculated that the "Dragon Age: Knights Errant" comics means there will be a fourth "Dragon Age" game or, at least, a spin-off title in the works.

Bioware has yet to announce a new game in the "Dragon Age" series, and more details for "Mass Effect: Andromeda" are expected on N7 Day, the day fans celebrate the "Mass Effect" series.
