'Destiny: Rise of Iron' DLC release date: Bungie to preview 'Rise of Iron' DLC on July 20

Developer Bungie has revealed that hardcore "Destiny" players will have a chance to get a sneak peek at the upcoming "Rise of Iron" DLC this week.

According to the studio's announcement, there will be a livestream for the new "Rise of Iron" DLC, which will go live over Bungie's Twitch channel on Wednesday, July 20 starting at 10 p.m. PT. This is good news for "Destiny" fans, since the new upcoming DLC is the latest major expansion for the game.

"Rise of Iron" is the fourth major expansion for "Destiny," right after "The Taken King." Previous DLCs include the first-ever "The Dark Below" and "House of Wolves." The upcoming new DLC goes live on September 20. However, much like what Bungie had said previously, the new DLC pack will only be released on current-gen platforms. This means that the new expansion ill not make it to "Destiny" players on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Prior to the livestream, Bungie has already revealed that the new "Rise of Iron" DLC will feature a new area for players, the Plaguelands social zone. As with previous updates, the new expansion also brings a number of new armor and gear, weapons, and Crucible maps. It is also expected that a new Raid will also go live with the update.

"Rise of Iron" is also expected to expand the stories for "Destiny," as hinted previously by game director Scott Taylor.

Meanwhile, Bungie has also revealed that aside from stopping major updates for the previous-gen consoles, Legacy updates will also stop for the consoles from August 16 onwards. This means that the game progression for consoles on the Xbox and PlayStation consoles will diverge, so players will not be able to continue with the same story and character path from the PS3 to the PS4, or the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One.
