'Destiny 2' release date: Bungie originally planned a 2015 release for sequel?

Developer Bungie has said it has plans to support and update its sci-fi space-age shooter "Destiny" well into the end of the year. Meanwhile, some fans are expecting that one of the updates that the developer has in mind, aside from major updates, is a sequel.

Although Bungie has yet to announce that it is thinking of a "Destiny 2" title, speculations of a second game installment have already floated online, even before Bungie released its third DLC and a major update as part of Year Two for "Destiny."

According to an earlier post by WeGotThisCovered, Bungie originally had plans to release a sequel last year, since the original launch date for "Destiny" should've been in 2013. A 2015 sequel release would've been the right time for Bungie to release "Destiny 2," given that there should be a two-year hiatus in between franchise releases.

However, due to delays, Bungie moved the original roll-out date, and "Destiny" finally came out in September 2014. Should Bungie stick to its original two-year plans for releases, fans expect "Destiny 2" to appear late this year.

Meanwhile, some observers surmised that instead of the expected "Destiny 2" in September, Bungie is thinking of releasing another major DLC update to celebrate the third year of the base game.

According to Express, subtle hints from the developer point to a major update coming to "Destiny" in September, probably to open celebrations for Year Three of the title. The report mentioned that Bungie hinted at some details on an upcoming change and possibly new additions to the game when it released an exclusive emblem, called the Rising Light, to qualified players early this month. Apparently, the emblem pointed out hints that Bungie is planning to at least add a new location – the planet Mercury – in its future plans. In addition, hints were also said to be connected to "The Dawning," another planned major event that would occur early this year.
