'Destiny 2' news: Sequel not launching in 2016

Although developer Bungie rolled out a third expansion and numerous new updates for its sci-fi futuristic shooter "Destiny," some players are asking when Bungie will release a sequel for the game particularly since it is already rumored that that developer is already working on a second title.

Recent news suggests that whenever the supposed "Destiny 2" will launch, it will not be this year. According to Kotaku, one of the recent decisions that the higher-ups at Bungie decided during the start of the year is that a sequel for "Destiny" will not be launched for 2016.

The industry follower mentioned that this is contradictory to previous speculations. Based on reported document leaks from 2012, observers have already predicted that Bungie will be following up "Destiny" with a sequel to be launched by the end of the year, and some followers even pegged September as the release period, to coincide with the anniversary of the "Destiny" launch.

Gadgets by NDTV added that the original roadmap planned by Bungie was to alternate full version releases with major expansions annually. With "Destiny" launching in 2014, and at least three current expansions as of last year, it should be high-time for the sequel to be released. However, changes to the production schedule reportedly delayed the "Destiny 2" launch. To make up for this, the development team is apparently coming out with at least twice the number of "event-based" content and at least one major expansion pack for this year.

As for the current "Destiny" title, Bungie apparently plans to keep on updating the game with new content prior to the sequel, whenever it may launch. Apart from the scheduled February Update, another event will go live next month. The aptly named "Crimson Days" will start on Feb. 9 and will last until Valentine's.
