A toddler who was pronounced dead Saturday in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines, woke up at her own funeral on Sunday.

A neighbor opened the coffin to arrange the three-year-old girl's body, and noticed her head moving. After checking for breathing and a pulse, they discovered that the girl was alive.

The unidentified family had brought their daughter to a clinic on Friday after she suffered from a fever for days.

"During that time, the attending clinic personnel and physician confirmed that the young patient had no more pulse and was clinically dead last Saturday morning about 9 a.m.," Aurora Police Chief Senior Inspector Heidil Teelan told The Philippine Star.

The parents took their daughter's body home to prepare for the funeral, which was held at a church the following day.

Footage from the funeral shows the father slowly picking his daughter up out of the casket, while a frantic crowd scurries around him. A woman makes a shooing motion towards the father and the crowd. When the girl moves her head from side to side, several audible gasps are heard. One woman places a blanket over the child's head, and two people hold a large, wooden cross toward the girl.

After giving her water, the girl was taken to a clinic, and then brought home. According to Chief Senior Inspector Teelan, the girl remains in a coma.

"We really cannot make confirmation on the status of the girl but based on the observation of the police personnel I deployed it appear the girl remained in a state of comatose in their house," he reported.

Teelan also said that nurses have been dispatched to the home, and the family plans to take the girl to a better-equipped hospital for testing.

Does the Church of England need to re-think its messaging?

If you look at the Church of England’s communications all that it ever seems to highlight is the good works that Christians do to improve the temporal well-being of their neighbours. It is right to highlight these things, but they are not the primary reason for the Church’s existence.
