'Dancing With the Stars' 2014 cast: Julianne Hough confirms stint as judge, Derek as pro-dancer

Julianne Hough will be a judge in season 19 of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars"

Hough appeared on Good Morning America last week to confirm that she will join Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli on the judges' panel for season 19 of "DWTS."

"I'm excited. 'Dancing With the Stars' has always been a part of my family," Hough told GMA. "That's where it all began for me, so It just felt like the right time and the right opportunity."

Hough, as a professional dancer in the show, won two trophies with Apolo Anton Ohno and Helio Castroneves. After winning, Hough moved on to acting and singing.

Hough was a guest judge last season and her judging style was criticized.

"I'm known to be a little bit honest and a little bit direct, but I think that's my role as a judge in this," Hough said. "I want to see people improve. It's never with a malicious intent. It's because I've been on the other side and I do want to be able to give criticism that they can take and learn and grow from."

Derek Hough, Julianne's brother, will compete in the show this season. Hough told GMA that she has no concerns about her brother competing.

"It's not necessarily about Derek and the [professional] dancer; it's about a collaboration," Hough said. "It's the team effort, it's what they're doing as a partnership, and, really, the celebrity and what they can do to improve each week."

"Dancing With the Stars" season 19 will premiere at 8 p.m. Sept. 15 on ABC.
