The Dallas Cowboys are not fazed by the fact that wide receiver Dez Bryant already said he would be missing regular-season action until he would get a long-term deal from the team. Quarterback Tony Romo has expressed his thoughts on the issue.
"The NFL is a business, it really is. You'll see that side sometimes, with DeMarco leaving and Dez not being part of the offseason. I think it will work out with Dez," Romo said through Mike Ramczyk of MyRacineCounty.com.
Like Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, vice president Stephen Jones and head coach Jason Garrett, Romo is not worrying about Bryant's current contract dispute with the franchise, although the deadline for both sides is nearing.
The Cowboys and Bryant, 26, must come to an agreement by July 15, or else he will need to sign the franchise tag given to him worth $12.823 million. But if no deal is reached and Bryant refuses to sign the tender, he will not be allowed to play this season.
ABut there is some good news: Bryant's representatives already met with the Cowboys last June 26. The meeting was the first time in a number of months that both sides have engaged in talks.
Despite missing the team's organized team activities, Bryant was present on the last day of the Cowboys' minicamp. He did not join the practice but played catch with an employee and chatted with Romo.
In a recent report by Fox Sports, a long-term deal is close to being reached, according to sources, although there is no specific information about it yet. Both sides need to quickly finalize the deal as the less-than-two-weeks deadline for it is fast approaching.
Bryant played in 18 games last season with the Cowboy,s including two playoff games and had a total of 94 receptions for 1,406 yards and 16 touchdowns.
