"CyberPunk 2077," based on the tabletop RPG by Mike Pondsmith, is currently in development by CD Projekt Red. The Polish company is most popularly known for developing and publishing the three "Witcher" games, and now, rumors are surfacing that the company might be acquired by a bigger corporation such as Electronic Arts.

According to a report from The Bitbag, a shareholders meeting is currently scheduled for the company this coming Nov. 29. During this meeting, the future of CD Projekt Red is going to be determined, such as whether or not the shareholders can buy back their portions of the company and if CD Projekt Red is to be merged with the holding company.

This would mean that CD Projekt Red could be bought and acquired by a bigger publishing company such as Blizzard-Activision, Electronic Arts, Microsoft, or others.

It is further stated in the report that this comes as no big surprise given that CD Projekt Red has proven quite successful in recent years. "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" has become one of the best RPGs of 2015 and has sold well over 10 million copies worldwide.

CD Projekt Red has only developed games set in "The Witcher" series thus far, including the recent "Gwent" card game. However, "CyberPunk 2077" will be their first title outside the franchise and is going to be an open-world action-RPG that allows players to approach missions through different methods.

If the company is acquired then it is possible that "CyberPunk 2077" is going to be delayed. The game was initially set for release in 2016 but got pushed back for reasons unknown. The game is currently rumored to launch in 2018 or 2021, but the developers have been silent regarding a more specific release window.

Back in September, it was revealed in a report from IGN that there were more employees working on "CyberPunk 2077" than "The Witcher 3" ever had. This would indicate that the game is deep in development right now and may be launched soon. Fans can expect a teaser trailer sometime in 2017.
