'Civilization VI' tips and tricks: handy tips for beginners

The newest "Civilization" franchise game is a guaranteed hit that it already breached the million players mark. However, although the series has its share of hardcore fans who may get the gist of "Civilization VI" right away, casual players may find it hard to check out the new title.

But as the game builds its player base, some veterans in the 25-year franchise have managed to put up some nifty tips and tricks to conquer the new installment.

As with every "Civilization" game, the new "Civilization VI" title also comes with its own tutorial, and it is advisable that both casual players and hardcore fans take note of the feature. The new tutorial gameplay highlights the number of improvements and tweaks in the gameplay and design in the new title.

Since the basic gameplay for "Civilization VI" is similar to previous titles, a tried-and-tested rule for game victory — planning researches — also come into play. The new game has a number of new research and technology trees that branch out, so players are advised to map out what type of community to build and to plan technology researches and upgrades accordingly.

In connection to researching, exploration is also important in the new game, as "Civilization VI" takes the feature further. In addition to exploring the area in order to map out resources, there are also a number of new Natural Wonder buildings that players can capture to give out a Eureka Moment, a feature that gives a boost to research and technology for one turn.

Meanwhile, aside from handy tips, there are also tricks and hacks in the new game, a signature feature of past "Civilization" games. In "Civilization VI," players also have access to the debug console, and they can tweak the config.ini file to hack some of the game's features like turning off walls and defenses, as well as revealing all areas — including the location of enemy camps — in the map.
