Christian Leaders Look to the Future at Europe Summit

A unique Europe-wide summit will gather more than 80 invited leaders from 18 nations in Mijas, southern Spain on 4-6 May 2006.

|TOP|The summit, entitled ‘The Strategic Leaders Consultation 2006: Europe 2020’, will look to address questions such as “What will Europe, including the UK, look like in the year 2020? What major challenges will societies face over the next 10 to15 years? Where will the church need to focus its energies if it is to produce long-term change?”

The round-table, cross-generational event will see leaders of national church networks and some of Europe’s fastest-growing and most creative churches gather together.

The Strategic Leadership Consultation (SLC) was started eight years ago by Mal Fletcher, director of London-based Next Wave International, a mission to Europe's contemporary cultures.

Fletcher stated, “Europe is changing fast. People are looking for help to steer them through the rough waters and the exciting opportunities ahead. That's where Europe's new churches can shine.”

He continued, “When was the last time you heard two leading futurists speak into a Christian leaders' event? Probably never.

Two of the most highly-regarded futurists will speak at SLC06:

Dr Tom Sine, USA, who is the author of a number of best-selling books on the future of Western cultures and the calling of the church, including The Mustard Seed Conspiracy, Wild Hope and Mustard Seed vs. McWorld: Reinventing Life and Faith for the Future.

Dr Patrick Dixon, Europe, who is the head of globalchnage.com.

Joining them will be Gary Clarke, the pastor of Hillsong Church London.

Dr Sine said, “Only the Lord knows fully what the future holds, but we can use the intelligence God gave us and a little discernment to anticipate some of the change coming at us and find ways to creatively respond before the waves reach us.”

Fletcher added, “Our goal with every SLC summit is to promote a sense of what is happening spiritually and socially across Europe as a whole - including the UK.”

Guests joining the SLC from 4-6 May will gather from South America, Australia, Canada, USA, South Africa and Europe.
