The Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints will face off on Sunday in a big game in Week 13 of the NFL 2015 regular season. The game has a scheduled start time of 4.25 p.m. ET and takes place from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Panthers will be looking to remain the NFL's lone undefeated team today with another win, which would also clinch them the NFC South title.
The Panthers' recent amazing run started last December with a massive 41-10 rout of the Saints, which ended a six game losing streak. They have not lost in fourteen subsequent regular season games, which leaves them on 11-0 coming into this game.
Carolina has outscored its last three opponents by a combined score of 104-40 and after the New England Patriots lost to the Denver Broncos last week, the Panthers are the only team left in the league without a loss this season.
Quarterback Cam Newton said, "We aren't trying to get lured in by what others may think. Our main focus - and we are already reminded by what coach (Ron) Rivera says - is to become 12-0 first. We can't make it bigger than it is. Nothing has changed for our preparation. It's all about becoming 1-0 by the end of Sunday."
Earlier this week, NFL Thursday Night Football saw the Green Bay Packers take on the Detroit Lions, and although it looked like the Lions had the game in the bag, a spectacular comeback in the second half by the Packers saw them take the spoils to move to 8-4.
Green Bay went in at the half way point without a point on the board and were behind by 17. But whatever they drank at halftime seemed to do the trick, as they came back out and piled on the points winning the third quarter 14-3 to pull the score back to 14-20. They then completed their comeback in the final quarter, scoring another 13 points with the Lions offense shut down and only able to score another three to leave the final score at 27-23.
The game winning play came in dramatic style, with Aaron Rodgers throwing a 61 yard touchdown to Richard Rodgers with no time left on the clock.
The result will be a relief for the Packers, who had lost four of their last five, and will be setback for the Lions, who had won three straight games coming into the game. They will be hugely disappointed to have missed out on the chance to sweep the series for the first time since 1991.
Anytime a team loses a 20 point lead it is a huge blow, but the nature of the loss and the opposition will make the defeat that much worse for Detroit.
The Packers left it late to make their charge, only scoring their first points with just 5.44 on the clock in the third quarter. But once they got into their rhythm there was no stopping them.
On the final play, the only reason the Packers had their final chance was because Devin Taylor grabbed Aaron Rodgers facemark. If he had not done that then the game would have been over, but because of that foul, Green Bay were given another chance, and Aaron Rodgers didn't need to be told twice. He launched a massive 61 yard Hail Mary pass, which came off to leave the Detroit fans stunned and the Packers fans in ecstasy.
Rodgers admitted after the game: "I've never had a completed Hail Mary before."
Rodgers finished the game with 26 of 36 for 289 yards and two touchdowns, compared to Matthew Stafford's 23 of 35 for 220 yards and two touchdowns.
