Canelo Alvarez vs Miguel Cotto fight news 2015: Rematch clause holding up formalization?

The much awaited mega bout between Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto are reportedly good as done but all that will be futile unless both sides make it official.

The date, place and most of the details have been agreed upon except for one – the terms tied up with a rematch clause.

According to Golden Boy Promotions Oscar Dela Hoya, Cotto's manager Gaby Penagaricano is not yet sold on the purse-split portion of the rematch clause and is seen as the only thing left to make the fight official.

The Cotto vs. Alvarez mega bout is set for November 21, 2015 and will be held at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Both fighters have already started preparation for the said fight although that last minor detail has to be ironed out to ensure smooth sailing until fight night.

"Currently, I see no real impediment for everything to be concluded very soon. But the whole deal for event, with all of its components, will be done when it is done. As of this minute, it is not done" says Dela Hoya via the LA Times.

The rematch clause was something that both fighters actually agreed on, reasoning out that should the fight be as epic as believed, having a second meeting between the Mexican and Puerto Rican boxer was something that should take place.

And from the looks of it, everyone was on the same page until the issue concerning the purse split came up.

"It's close, but this fight should've been done two weeks ago. … If that's what's holding up everything, we can take it out," De La Hoya said of the rematch clause. "It's no big deal. We can negotiate in good faith when the time comes [for the next fight]."

Well from the looks of it, the fight is about 90% done and unlike other fight negotiations (think Brandon Rios vs. Kell Brook based on ESPN's report) that fell to agree on a rematch clause, both camps seem to be flexible and likely to come to a compromise soon.
