'Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare' release date news: Side missions integral to story

While the next "Call of Duty" installment readily lays down a main plot for players to experience, publisher Activision says that the numerous side missions integrated into the story are also important.

In an interview with VentureBeat, developer Infinity Ward illustrates how integral the side missions are. According to Chad Finley, senior producer and associate project director at Infinity Ward, players who do side missions will get more help in trying to finish the main storyline.

Finley elaborates, "Some of the things you can get, energy weapons for instance, are much better against robots. A lot of the energy weapons are found on these side missions. If you want the energy shotgun or energy sniper, that's where you can get those."

Jacob Minkoff, video game designer, adds that aside from equipment and gear, most of the storyline will unfold with hints from the side missions scattered throughout the "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" campaign.

The game designer adds, "They also get you enemy intel that helps you target enemy forces better. There's more world building, too. Some of the missions are more stealthy, where you'll go behind enemy lines and hear their commanders talking about their plans. Those are very intense. You overhear a lot of conversations."

Meanwhile, close to the release date of the new installment, industry followers have nothing but praises for the game's hands-on sessions at the E3 2016 and have been building up excitement for fans. The Verge says that with the combination of improved graphics and design, as well as moving up the gameplay from first-person shooter to space- and zero-G dogfights, the next "Call of Duty" game will be a feast for both hardcore fans and casual players alike.

"Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" will be released on Nov. 4 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
