'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' DLC Awakening release date in January?

Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Awakening DLC Activision

Although developer Treyarch and publisher Activision have just released "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3," they have already mapped out future plans for expansions. Reportedly, the first DLC will come out for the title early next year and will be expanding the maps for the shooter.

According to a post on the Activision blog, the first DLC is a map pack dubbed Awakening. The upcoming pack is the first of four planned DLC packs and will add four new locations – Gauntlet, Rise, Skyjacked, and Splash. In addition, the Awakening DLC will also unlock the next chapter in the continuing zombie saga for "Black Ops 3: Der Eisendrache."

While the post announcement does not mention a specific release date for the DLC to come out, Crossmap reported that the DLC pack will release for the PS4 on Jan. 26. The DLC will be a month-long exclusive on Sony's console since it was also mentioned that Awakening will roll out for the Xbox One the month after, on Feb. 25.

Meanwhile, although Activision did say that Awakening is just the first of four planned packs, the publisher did not give out specifics for the remaining three. However, in an earlier report, Video Games Blogger managed to put out a tentative list of schedule dates for the four map packs. All four map packs will be released first for the PS4, and then for the Xbox One a month after. Next to Awakening, the second map pack will be released for the PS4 on March 29. The third one will land on May 31 and the final map pack, on Aug. 2.

Aside from the four map packs, Activision is also planning to expand the game as a tournament title. The publisher also announced that Sony PlayStation will be a partner for the "Call of Duty" World League, and season pre-qualifiers have already begun is Los Angeles, Cologne, and Sydney. The tournament will have a $3 million prize.
