"Black Sails" season 4 will be the final season for the show, and it will conclude the main plot that eventually leads to the events in Robert Louis Stevenson's novel, "Treasure Island." Season 4's official poster has now been released, and Starz announced that the show will premiere on Jan. 29, 2017.

As reported by SlashFilm, the final season will shift from its original Saturday timeslot to a 9 p.m. ET/PT schedule. This will allow it to better compete against some of the similar fantasy shows on Showtime and HBO, such as "Game of Thrones." The show shares a timeslot with "Outlander," which airs when "Black Sails" is in between seasons.

During the season 3 finale, Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and the crew of the Walrus were successful in defeating the English and keeping Nassau of New Providence Island free from English reign. However, as stated in a report by Screen Rant, a greater battle looms in season 4.

"The shores of New Providence Island have never been bloodier, but the closer civilization comes to defeat, the more desperately, and destructively, it will fight back," reads the official synopsis for season 4, further indicating a large-scale battle will be depicted before the show is over.

Given that "Black Sails" is a prequel to the book "Treasure Island," fans have also speculated that during the final season, viewers will get to see Flint and his crew get a hold of the treasure, hide it, and then go through an epilogue set several years later where Flint gives the map to set up the events of "Treasure Island."

No further details regarding season 4 have been announced as of writing, such as the main villain or how the show will tie in the story to "Treasure Island," given that the events in the show and the novel are separated by at least two decades.
