Bishop rocks for charity

The Bishop of Lynn is no stranger to singing

The Bishop of Lynn is releasing an album to raise money for a local hospice and a church in need of urgent repairs.

The Right Reverend Jonathan Meyrick will be launching "Everlasting Smiles from the 60s" on 10 May.

The collection of cover versions includes "Wild Thing", "Satisfaction (I Can't Get No), and "I'm A Believer".

"Wild Thing" was first sung by the bishop in public at the Young Farmers Club in the late 70s. He sang it again on Radio 1's DLT in the Afternoon and ITV's Stars In Their Eyes.

Last year, he made an appearance at the Festival Too in King's Lynn and the Diamond Jubilee Concert on the Quay.

He took to the recording studio soon after for his fundraising album, which also includes some poetry and reflection.

Proceeds will go to Norfolk Hospice at Tapping House and St Nicholas Chapel in King's Lynn, which is in need of considerable fabric repairs.

"Both charities are reflective of the love of God – shown in a distinctive, vulnerable and truly beautiful building; and even more in the love and dedicated care given to those in need of the Hospice's ministry," he said.

"I hope that you will enjoy the songs on this CD and that your support for the two charities will help them to flourish and minister the love of God in their distinctive and valuable ways."

The CD will be sold through the hospice's shops and website.
