'Bates Motel' season 3 spoilers: Annika's mysterious disappearance may not be what viewers think in episode 2

Season 3 of "Bates Motel" has just started but things are already heating up in White Pine Bay — and Norman (Freddie Highmore) and Norma (Vera Farmiga) Bates may have something to do with it.

In the season premiere of "Bates Motel" season 3, Norman met a new girl named Annika Johnson (Tracy Spiridakos) who booked a room in the quiet motel owned by the mother-son duo. Norman was immediately smitten with Annika, and the two developed a quick friendship as he helped her change the light bulb in her room.

But in a sequence that seems like a homage to the original "Psycho" movie directed by Alfred Hitchock, Norman almost reenacted the iconic moment when the first Norman, portrayed by Anthony Hopkins, spied on Marion (Janet Leigh) while undressing in her bathroom. In the TV adaptation for the film, the young Norman almost spied on Annika, but his mother Norma caught him and dragged him back home.

Before the episode ended, Annika asked Norman to help her find her way to a certain destination, which he promptly complied. However, he ended up driving Annika's car back to the motel, but she was not in sight.

Is it possible that Norman suffered from another blackout and killed Annika, just like what he did with his high school teacher, Miss Blair Watson (Keegan Connor Tracy)?

But in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress who plays the role of Annika claims that she will be back, and her disappearance is not like what viewers think.

When asked if Annika is already dead, Spiridakos teased, "You'll see her around. You'll see her character has some important information for things that come forward that we'll see in the future."

Meanwhile, Carter Matt posted the official synopsis of "Bates Motel" season 3 episode 2, which reads: "Norma and Norman focus on Annika's disappearance; Norma learns the truth about the Arcanum Club."

The episode airs March 16 on A&E.
