Former first lady Barbara Bush lived her life dedicated to Jesus Christ, so as she was laid to rest at her husband's presidential library in Texas on Saturday, it was only fitting that attendees cited scripture to say goodbye to her.

Her granddaughters offered moving passages from Ecclesiastes, Proverbs and Corinthians.

"For everthing there is a season," began Elizabeth Dwen Andrews from Ecclesiastes 3:1-14.

Her other granddaughters, Noelle Lucila Bush, Jenna Bush Hager, Marshall Lloyd Bush Rossi, Nancy LeBlond Sosa, Ashley Walker Bush and Georgia Grace Koch, all read from Proverbs 31:10-31.

Jenna, who is the daughter of former president George W. Bush, had to fight tears from flowing as she cited her part of the scripture. The tribute ended when Barbara Pierce Bush read from II Corinthians: 4:16-5:9.

Even as she faced death, her son Jeb Bush, former governor of Florida, said that his mother showcased her deep love for God.

"We learned to strive to be genuine and authentic by the best role model in the world," Bush said of his mother.

During his last visit with her, Jeb even asked her about her feelings on death. "Jeb, I believe in Jesus and He [is] my Savior," she told him. "I don't want to leave your dad but I know I'll be in a beautiful place."

Barbara Bush is the second woman in U.S. history to have a husband and son both elected as President. She died last Tuesday at the age of 92 at her home in Houston. Her death came after she battled chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure. After a series of hospitalizations, Barbara said no to seeking additional medical help.
