Avonte Oquendo found: Remains of body washed up in East River identified as missing autistic teenager

The remains of Avonte Oquendo has been found.

The body of Avonte Oquendo, the autistic teenager who went missing from his school in New York City, has been found.

The remains of the teen, who was last seen leaving his school in Long Island City on Oct 4, 2013, has been washed up along the East River in College Point, Queens.

The news was confirmed by the city medical examiner.

The remains are a match with Oquendo, whose family had been frantically searching for him since he was seen running out of his school in CCTV footage.

The 14-year-old had suffered from a severe form of autism, and was unable to communicate verbally.

Oquendo was found wearing the same clothes that he was seen wearing before he disappeared. The body was confirmed as Oquendo after DNA tests were carried out this week.

The cause of death has not been determined yet.

The case of the missing teenager was widely known and his family had put up posters all across the city to find the boy.
