Archbishop invites Christians to pray on 9/11 anniversary

The Archbishop of York is asking Christians to join together in prayer on the tenth anniversary of 9/11.

On Sunday, the world will remember the victims of the terrorist attacks on the US and their families with services and memorials.

Dr John Sentamu has penned a special prayer to mark the anniversary:

Almighty God,
bless your beautiful world.
Lead her leaders from falsehood,
into Truth and Justice.
Guard and defend your children.
Re-kindle in all the citizens of your world,
the fire of your love.
And inspire us
to love one another,
and to be peace-makers.
Through Jesus Christ,
the Saviour of the World.

In London, special services are being held at 7:45am in Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair and at 6:30pm in Westminster Abbey.

The services coincide with Awareness Sunday being held around the world to remember the victims of the atrocities and renew efforts to build better relationships with those of other faiths.

Representatives of other faiths will be in attendance.
