With the Worldwide Developers Conference happening this June, Apple observers are getting very excited about the rumors surrounding the products the company is planning to unveil and detail during the event.
One such rumor concerns the upcoming new platforms for the mobile and computer versions of Apple flagships. According to speculations, Apple will probably announce a more standard approach for the multitude of its flagship products, starting with the company's system fonts. Supposedly, Apple will incorporate the font it used for the Apple Watch into its upcoming iOS 9 and OSX 10.11 platforms.
The font for the Apple Watch, dubbed San Francisco, is one Apple especially made for its first wearable. The Cupertino-based company opted for the new font design rather than use the old Helvetica Neue. According to reports, many designers and Apple fans voiced displeasure over the font as it appears flat even on Retina displays and when viewed from a particular angle, pretty much illegible.
The rumor about a change in standardized new font across Apple platforms is quickly gaining steam, reinforced by Apple's recent move to also make the keyboard letters for the new Macbook in San Francisco type.
If this is the case, however, it is expected that the new iOS 9 and OSX 10.11 will not make it this year. Although there are reports that the new iOS and OSX platforms will be released before the year ends, making an overhaul at this point in time might delay that possibility. Changing font is not that easy, as Apple will need to completely refit the entire build of pre-bundled apps for iOS and OSX.
However, if Apple has already made the decision to switch over to San Francisco prior to the release of the Apple Watch last April, there will still be ample time for the iOS 9 and OSX 10.11 to make it this year, and the new platforms might be released just in time for the holidays.
