Apple AR glasses 2017 release date rumors: Wearable might be in the works, launch not expected soon

The dawn of augmented reality in Apple devices was revealed during the tech giant's keynote event in September. However, one question still remains: Will the long-rumored Apple AR glasses be released soon?

According to the latest reports, the Apple AR glasses could still become a reality, as evidenced by the latest move of the Cupertino-based tech giant. For one, the latest iPhone 8 and iPhone X smartphones boast sophisticated dual-camera systems with 3D sensors, helping set up AR features. Also, the iOS 11 update highlights ARKit, a software development kit that will support AR contents in Apple devices.

However, even though Apple seems to be preparing the foundation of a full-blown AR headgear, such hardware is not expected to be revealed in the near future. A Super Ventures partner, Matt Miesnieks, said that the Apple AR glasses may arrive in three years, at the earliest.

For now, the current technology behind the visual headgears and eyewear may not be enough to process AR algorithms, even from the iOS 11's ARKit tool. There is still a long way to go before the Apple AR glasses can be launched, taking into consideration the high expectations from the public. Although, its development has likely already begun.

The Wall Street Journal predicted prior to the launch of iOS 11's AR features that Apple would be making its initial steps in conquering the AR territory. Apple has not yet revealed their next move after the iOS 11 release, although rumor has it that the tech giant will aim to popularize AR over the next several months.  With this, the public can expect more from the company in terms of promoting AR technology in their upcoming software and hardware releases.

As for the Apple AR glasses, the public is advised to wait for the company's official announcement and take the rumors with a grain of salt. It is likely that the tech giant is taking its time before they can finally release a full-blown AR headset.
