The objective of each player is to set up a camp of their own and design it however they like. Players can also interact with other players in the game. Players can also level up to unlock new contents. The game introduced a much more flexible world design with specific customization functions. The application also features interactive locations with several activities like cooking, fishing, camping, bug hunting, and more.

The game also introduced a new kind of currency called Leaf Tickets. Players can speed up their progress of building structures and buy new items for their avatar with Leaf Tickets.

"Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp" brought new animal characters to serve as your tour guides, friends, and neighbors in the game.
