Android Marshmallow update: Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 T-Mobile users getting Android M

While Google is readying the release of the upcoming Android Nougat platform, most devices continue to get the current-gen Android Marshmallow version. The latest to roll out the Android M update is T-Mobile, for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2.

On the support page for the update, T-Mobile confirms that the roll-out started earlier this week. Since the Android M update is considered a major patch, the update will be on a staggered release, so it will still take some days before all of subscribers with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 receive the update. For an update over an OTA notification, users will just need to click on Start when the message appears on the device.

Meanwhile, as with previous major Android updates, the Android Marshmallow 6.0 platform is also available as a manual download for T-Mobile subscribers. Device owners can either download the update by refreshing the About Device option in the Settings > General tab, or by updating the Galaxy Tab S2 via the Samsung Smart Switch for PC app.

Since the update is a substantial one, T-Mobile also advises that the device should at least have 50% or higher battery life, and to check for a stable data connection first.

The update is successful if the Android Version in the Settings tab reflects Android 6.0.1, and the baseband version should be updated to T817TUVU2BPF1.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the latest slate to be updated to Android Marshmallow, as the T-Mobile release follows shortly after other carriers like AT&T also updated the slate in their lineup. One speculation that surfaced recently is that tech manufacturers and carriers are readying their lineup for another Galaxy Tab iteration, the Galaxy Tab S3. The new follow-up will reportedly be revealed in September, and may even be released together with another Samsung flagship, the Galaxy Note 7.
