Moto X 2014 officially gets Android 6.0 Marshmallow update

While it has been months since Google first released Android Marshmallow and the platform is already on its 6.0.1 update, some Android-run devices are still waiting for their OTA update notifications.

The switch to Android M is slow, but some tech manufacturers have already finished their own Android Marshmallow builds and are getting it out to device users.

The most recent update over the air for an Android M build is from Motorola. According to reports, Moto X 2014 owners are already getting notifications for an Android Marshmallow version download.

Android Central said that they can attest to this as the update also rolled out via OTA notifications to their own devices.

Aside from the Moto X 2014 units in the United States, the rollout was also reportedly released for the units in Canada, Brazil, India, and the U.K. This might mean that the roll-out is a global release but on a staggered basis. The areas that were already getting the Android M download notifications were the first locations on the list.

This also seems to be what Android Authority was thinking. According to the observer, the staged rollout schedules give out gradual updates to prevent traffic over the download servers. This was also why some tech manufacturers that have a number of flagship lineups don't roll out updates for their entire iterations.

The industry follower added that the Android M rollout initiated by Motorola for the Moto X 2014 is only for the unlocked version. Meanwhile, subscribers will need to wait for their mobile carriers for an Android M schedule.

For those who haven't received an OTA notification yet and already want to experience Android Marshmallow, a manual check and update is also possible for their Moto X 2014. The update can be found in the System Updates tab under the Settings > About Phone menu.
