The latest Android 5.0 Lollipop had a rocky launch after it was found out that the operating system is plagued with a lot of bugs and issues. In order to finally resolve these problems, Google is reportedly releasing a major OS update, Android 5.1, in February. The OS will be widely released in June or July 2015.

Tech website Android Pit cited two unnamed sources who it claimed are knowledgeable about the status of Android 5.1 Lollipop OS update and said that it will be released in the first quarter of 2015. Just like all other Android updates, the mobile software will be rolled out to Nexus devices first with Nexus 6 and 9 to bring critical bug fixes. Then, it will find its way to most devices in mid-2015.

The report also published the changelog for Android 5.1 Lollipop OS update. Below are some of the bug fixes that will be included to address issues:

  • Silent mode added after missing on Android 5.0
  • General improvements in system stability
  • Improved RAM management
  • Fixes for sudden app closures
  • Improved battery management
  • Excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed
  • Issues with wireless connections fixed
  • Problems with Okay Google function solved
  • Notifications problems solved
  • Some sound problems experience by certain devices fixed
  • Other improvements and changes
  • Changes in the Material Design color palette (after users complaints, possibly for a higher version though)

Android 5.0 Lollipop OS was announced at the Google's I/O Developers' Conference and was first seen in the new Nexus 6 and 9 devices. Then, it was rolled out to Nexus and Google Play Edition devices. The operating system underwent a Developer Preview before its release, with the thought that it will sweep off major problems in the program. However, right after its release, users already noticed and complained of bugs, including installation and Wi-Fi issues.
