Android 5.1.1 update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5 rolls out

 Official Android Blog

Google has finally released the over the air update for the Nexus 4 and 5.

Barely a month after Google started rolling out the 5.1.1 Lollipop update starting with the Nexus Player, two other devices under the Nexus series have their platforms updated.

The Nexus 4 and 5 updates started as image flashes on the developer page of Google, and the OTA update just started rolling out this week. According to the automatic update notification on Nexus 4 and 5 that already received the updates, the new Android version are build LMY47V for the Nexus 4 and LMY48B for the Nexus 5.

Since the over the air updates for the two devices have just started early this week, it is expected that the global rollout of the Android 5.1.1 update for all Nexus 4 and 5 users will be completed in the weeks to come.

The Lollipop 5.1.1 update brings stability and performance improvements on the Nexus 4 and 5. Most notably, users of the two devices hope that the newest Android version will finally iron out the many bugs and glitches, especially the memory leak issue, still present in the previous Lollipop version, which were also present in the original 5.0 Lollipop.

As with any other updates, users are reminded to back up important data and settings first before attempting to update. Also, owners of the Nexus 4 and 5 devices should make sure that their smartphones have at least 80 percent battery charge before updating, so there would be no danger of devices dying midway through the update process, which could potentially brick the phones.

The update should be automatic over the air via the automatic notification that the phones will display once the update is already available. For owners who want to check if the 5.1.1 version can already be downloaded, or have missed the auto notification and want to update manually, the link can be found in the System Updates tab inside the Settings -> About Phone tabs.
