After taking a break from the hit horror anthology 'American Horror Story' last season due to commitments with Netflix, but fans will be thrilled to know that one of the genre's best loved actresses is returning for season 8.

Kathy Bates is back for the next season of the nailbiting FX show after giving season 7 a miss because of her role in Netflix's 'Disjointed.'

That show has been discontinued, freeing up the 'Titanic' star to join the cast once again on American Horror Story, EW.com reports.

Fans will remember Bates' last appearance as one of the most memorable characters back in season six of 'American Horror Story', themed 'Roanoke'.  But she's a veteran of the anthology, having appeared in the earlier seasons titled 'Coven' - for which she picked up a Primetime Emmy - as well as 'Freak Show' and 'Hotel'.

The news of her return was confirmed to EW by the show's co-creator Ryan Murphy.

"Kathy and Sarah Paulson have a lot of great stuff to get to do," he commented. "So, with Evan Peters, the three of them are the leads this year."

Ryan also commented on reports in the rumor mill that season 8 of the FX series will be titled Radioactive, although his comments will only leave fans guessing more, not less.

"I heard about that rumor. Well, that's based on a fact that we've cleared a lot of titles for that show. It's an interesting idea. I can neither confirm nor deny," he said.

According to E! News, the next installment takes place in the future. "It's a projection story," Murphy said, according to the site.

And while it promises all of the scares you would expect from 'American Horror Story', Murphy promises that it will offer something different and that there will also be some humor.

"I think we've never done a season like it," Ryan Murphy tells E! News. "It's all very, very dark but very funny."
