American actress, Amy Adams, received high praises from some of the biggest names in Hollywood as she received the 31st American Cinematheque Award last Friday, Nov. 10 in Beverly Hills, California.

Adams gave a speech that inspired many of the attendees. Some of the A-listers that were in attendance were British director Christopher Nolan, Tom Hanks, Justin Timberlake, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

In a report by Deadline, 43-year-old Adams, who has been nominated five times for the Oscars, stated in her speech that she sometimes questions why she is in the business of making movies. She asked her daughter, who is 7 years of age, what movies meant to her — to which her daughter responded "I like movies because they allow my imagination to grow and make me feel like I'm dreaming even though I'm awake."

Given that, Adams expressed her gratitude towards the audience by saying "I want to thank all of you for allowing me to live my dream even though I'm awake," which was followed by a standing ovation from the ceremony's attendees. According to Variety, Tom Hanks provided the introductions. He paid tribute to Adams for receiving the prestigious award by recounting the numerous milestones in the actress' career in the entertainment business.

Hanks detailed Adams' rise to stardom, from her humble beginnings as a Hooters employee until she became the bona fide star that she is today. In addition, Hanks also stated that Adams is definitely a competent actress and has the ability to be a show stopper at the right moments, specifically during their time together in the film "Charlie Wilson's War."

According to CTV News, Michael Shannon, who has starred alongside Adams for the 2016 film "Nocturnal Animals," stated that Adams is indeed one of the most hard-working people that he has come across, but at the same time is also very "easy to be around." Adams has been nominated multiple times for both the Golden Globes, as well as the Oscars. She may have snagged Golden Globes in the past, but she has yet to win an Oscar.
