2015 FIFA Women's World Cup semi-finals preview: Germany vs. United States

The intensity of the competition continues in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup as the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked national squads collide in the semi-finals with Germany taking on the United States.

The U.S. now have made it in to the semi-finals of all the seven Women's World Cup since the tournament's inaugural year in 1991, where they were also crowned as champions.

Despite the feat, the Americans have not won the tournament since 1999 while Germany captured the championship in two of the last three World Cups (2003, 2007).

The matchup between both squads will be terrific since Germany prides itself with offense while the U.S.'s defense has been splendid all throughout the tournament.

Germany already has 20 goals so far according to the International Business Times nearly twice the goals scored by the U.S.

But despite their struggles on scoring, the Americans only allowed one goal so far against Australia in their tournament opener which they won 3-1.

It will be an interesting scene to see the tournament's leading scorer Germany striker Celia Sasic who already has six goals trying to challenge U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo's defense.

Solo already has 11 saves in the tourney and looks at the possibility of facing a tired German squad coming out of a victory over No. 3 ranked France.

"They're going to either hit us with a wake-up call that they needed or they're going to be tired. We're peaking at the right time," Solo said according to BBC Sports.

She added, "Germany is a great team. They're tactically great. They're organised but we're right where we need to be and hopefully we're going to beat Germany and head into the final."

Meanwhile, Germany defender Annike Krahn is aware that the U.S. will have the fans' support with the match taking place at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Canada.

"The crowd will definitely be against us and cheer on USA loudly. But that motivates us even more," Krahn said in a report by BBC Sports.

The game will be on Tuesday and will be shown on FOX with coverage starting at 6 p.m. (7 p.m. ET in Montreal).
