20,000 to Pray for End to Gun & Knife Crime

Nancy Odunewu, whose 19-year-old son Emmanuel was stabbed to death outside Lewisham Police Station in London on 28 November 2006, will be joined by an estimated 20,000 Christians this Sunday in praying for an end to the knife and gun crime in the capital.

|PIC1|Mrs Odunewu will speak at the Global Day of Prayer London event to be held from 3pm till 5.30pm at the West Ham United Football Stadium, where it is expected representatives from hundreds of churches will demonstrate their commitment to ending the violence as well as pray into critical national and global issues.

The stadium gathering, thought to be the largest inter-church event in London for 20 years, is part of the year-long unbroken prayer chain by London churches called 'A Year for London'.

Pastor Jonathan Oloyede, the originator catalyst for the 27 May event, has called for Christians across London and the UK to join in united prayers for the day.

Event spokesman, Pastor Ade Omooba said: "Nancy Odunewu will share not only her pain and loss, but also her hope that through prayer, this violence will end.

"Nancy has worked tirelessly since November 28 to build community bridges and to campaign for more community and police resources. However, she knows the heart of London's problem will never be changed until people's hearts are changed, and that can only be brought about by God."

At the event the stadium congregation will also be led in singing by a star-studded line-up of Christian artists including Graham Kendrick, Tim Hughes, the All Soul's Orchestra, Patti Boulaye and Dave Billbrough.
