'Vikings' season 3 spoilers: The siege on Paris begins in episode 7

Season 3 of "Vikings" has been featuring lots of game-changing events, from the death of Siggy to the death of Athelstan in Floki's hand, no less, in episode 6. Episode 7 titled "Paris" will continue this trend as the stakes only go higher.

One of the big issues revolves around Ragnar's decision of keeping King Ecbert's betrayal a secret. Series creator Michael Hirst has made it clear that the Vikings honor vengeance more than they do ambition, and if they would hear of his betrayal, the siege on Paris might end.

In episode 6, "Born Again," Ragnar silenced the messenger that reported Ecbert's actions, ensuring only Ragnar and Floki would know of it. Perhaps they would have to delay their vengeance until the siege on Paris is over. This might become the main plot thread for season 4.

The official synopsis for the episode also indicates that Ragnar will come face to face with Emperor Charles. In the promo trailer for "Paris," Emperor Charles is seen debating his stay in the city with his daughter. It also shows the city in chaos as people flee from the incoming invaders.

With only four episodes left in this season, it appears that the remaining entries will focus more on the raid on Paris. Episode 7 will open the gates to what episodes 8 and 9 have in store for Ragnar and his band of Viking raiders.

While not mentioned in the episode synopsis, it is likely that some time will be spent with Judith and her son Alfred, destined to avenge his father, Athelstan, by fending off Vikings. His life under King Ecbert might give some insight on how he would grow into the greatest king of England, Alfred the Great.

Season 3 episode 7 of "Vikings" titled "Paris" is set to air on April 2.
