Now that "Supergirl finished its second season run, a few details on what's coming up next season are slowly emerging. Among the most recent news involved casting updates for "Supergirl" season 3, specifically for stars Calista Flockhart and Floriana Lima.

Fans appreciated that Flockhart's character, Cat Grant, was in the final episodes of "Supergirl" season 2. In one scene, she sat back in her old office as if to suggest she's taking reigns of her company again following her long absence.

When "Supergirl" moved production in Vancouver, as opposed to Los Angeles, Flockhart arranged to cut down her appearances in favor of her family commitments. The actress did not want to uproot her life to Canada, where filming the show normally takes nine months in a year. To explain what happened to her, "Supergirl" writers made her character go on a sabbatical at the Himalayan Mountains to assess her life.

However, while Flockhart's name is part of "Supergirl" season 3's press releases, her full-time return is not assured, according to TV Line. Her status remains as before, as a semi-regular. What viewers can count on is for the actress to have several guest appearances next season.

Meanwhile, producers also confirmed Lima will not be a series regular in "Supergirl" season 3. Introduced as Detective Maggie Sawyer and Alex's (Chyler Leigh's) girlfriend, Lima said her commitment originally was for one season only.

Nevertheless, it thrilled her to be playing the role again, especially since viewers welcomed her team up with Leigh quite well. Like Flockhart, though, Lima opted for a reduced role for "Supergirl" season 3.

"Supergirl" executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said the actress was "looking to pursue other opportunities," as reported by Entertainment Weekly. He has not confirmed for how many episodes both Flockhart and Lima could return.

For now, "Supergirl" is taking a break from filming for the summer. Production will likely resume around mid-August to prepare for the show's return in the fall.
