'Spectacular Spider-Man' movie rumors and updates: Iron Man to make an appearance?

The Amazing Spider-Man

Now that an all-new "Spider-Man" reboot will be drawn out from the collaborative efforts of Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, the web-slinger will not be tagged as "Amazing" anymore. Instead, the crimefighter will now be called "Spectacular Spider-Man." At least that's what new chitchat says.

The development for the film is moving along, too. Latino Review says that the director for the reboot has been named and it will be Drew Goddard, who will also allegedly write the whole thing. Reports also claim that having him take the reins in the movie means "Sinister Six" would be scrapped (he was also tapped to work on that).

"Spectacular Spider-Man" will deal with the red and blue-clad hero's attempts to be a member of the Avengers by way of an "audition." This will purportedly set the stage for a big showdown between Spider-Man and Iron Man, who is apparently in charge of determining whether the hero is ready for the squad. This means that the quipping sassy billionaire played by Robert Downey Jr. just might be in the hotly-anticipated film.

With a big star apparently on the cards, the next thing to deal with is finding the actor who will play Spider-Man. Andrew Garfield is now out of the picture. This paves the way for major speculations, one of which is the possibility of having "The Maze Runner" lead Dylan O'Brien take the torch. However, this might not be the case.

"It's nothing but flattering. [But] it's never something I would want to get myself excited about, since I know I haven't heard about it from a professional standpoint," the actor told Buzzfeed.

"It makes me feel bad because I'm, like, disappointing a big chunk of fans across the nation. You can tell them that it's not true," O'Brien said as he professed how he "always wanted" to be the one behind Spider-Man's mask.

Besides, Latino Review claims that the actor to play what it said would be a "high-school based Peter Parker" will be someone unknown. He will be someone that fans will see grow up into the superhero on screen. The site also says that there will be two more movies after the reboot and that these will move away from Spider-Man's origin story that has always been portrayed in previous films.
