'Scream Queens' actress Abigail Breslin shares struggle with PTSD on Instagram

In line with the Domestic Violence Awareness Month that is celebrated every October, "Scream Queens" actress Abigail Breslin shared on social media about her struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD, which stemmed from a harrowing experience. PTSD, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, is common to people who have experienced distressing or painful events. Treatments include taking medication and undergoing a series of psychotherapy.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, Oct. 15, Breslin highlighted the significance of the month by opening up on her battle against PTSD. The actress showed a photo of her wounded ankle, which was the result of an "episode."

"I was so freaked out and disoriented I slipped and fell on a piece of glass," the 21-year-old "Zombieland" actress narrated. Breslin also revealed how she first had doubts about posting her thoughts on PTSD but went on to explain that she dismissed this by noting that it was not something to be ashamed of. That said, she had hinted in previous posts about the reason for her PTSD.

The "My Sister's Keeper" star first posted a cryptic message about rape consent on the photo-sharing app in April this year. Later that month, Breslin replied to a comment from her previous content that said, "reported rapes are the only rapes that count." Through another Instagram post, she disclosed the reason why she did not inform anyone of the sexual assault.

Apparently, Breslin was in a relationship when the abuse had happened. She was not able to report the maltreatment because she was still in shock at the time and did not want her family to suffer.

Breslin's post comes at a time when actresses are relaying their experiences with film producer, Harvey Weinstein. Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Ashley Judd, to name a few, accused the film mogul of sexual assault. Many actors, like Benedict Cumberbatch, slammed Weinstein of his actions and abuse of power.
