Playstation Plus free games for January 2016: list to be announced before Dec. 30

 Playstation Europe

With the month of December almost ready for a curtain call, PS Plus subscribers are dying to learn what the new batch of games they will be able to download for free next month in the hopes of giving their 2016 gaming year a big boost.

When asked on Twitter by a fan about when Sony Computer Entertainment will unveil the titles, PlayStation Europe blog manager Fred Dutton revealed that subscribers will learn of the list at least before this week wraps up. That being said, Sony should make the announcement any day now.

This is noticeably a shift in how Sony Computer Entertainment announces its PS Plus free games. PlayStation Lifestyle notes that last year, the company announced the gratis titles for December 2014 and January 2015 as early as November.

It seems that Sony Computer Entertainment already has plans but they are not final yet. "Things can change right up to the wire, so I'm reluctant to give a firm date. But at present, yes, the intent is to have the news for you mid-next week [before Dec. 30]," he stated via PlayStation Lifestyle.

Needless to say, gamers already have a wish list for the PS Plus free games in January next year. According to MNR Daily, PS3 players are hoping to get "Batman: Arkham Origins" and "Dark Souls Two" for free. Both games received positive reviews when they were released.

These selections will also be a good way for Sony to be on par with Microsoft, which announced the Xbox Games with Gold free games for January 2016 not too long ago. The company is offering "Killer Instinct: Season One Ultra Edition" and "Deus Ex: Human Revolution."

PS Vita players are hoping that they can score role-playing first-person shooter "Borderlands" or its sequel "Borderlands 2" as their freebies for next month. Titles like "Gauntlet: Slayer Edition" or "King's Quest" should make patrons of the subscription service as well.

Whatever the games that will be given away, they are sure to be made available on Jan. 5, 2016, in observance of the first-Tuesday-of-the-month schedule.
