NCIS season 12 spoilers: Special agent Ned helps team investigate murder of Navy officer in episode 22 'Troll'

NCIS Special Agent Ned Dorneget CBS

After a short one-week hiatus, "NCIS" will return with its season 12 episode 22 entry, "Troll."

The word "troll" instantly brings to mind angry comments flooding the Internet but the official synopsis of the episode indicates otherwise. According to the synopsis, Special Agent Ned Dorneget (Matt Jones) will be returning to help the team investigate the murder of a Navy officer who worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence.

According to a CBS report, Dorneget was sent by the NCIS Cyber Operations Division specifically for this case and will be working with Gibbs (Mark Harmon), Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly).

Matt Jones isn't staying for just one episode either. According to a report by Cartermatt, Matt Jones will stick around until the next episode, "Lost Boys," which will air on May 5. The next episode will continue the cyber investigation as the team now discovers a group responsible for the abduction of children, using them for international terrorist activities.

At the same time, Bishop's husband Jake Malloy (Jamie Bamber) will be returning and the team will discover that Jake and Gibbs have become good friends. This hints that the episode will not lose the series' light sense of humor that is sometimes buried by the dark themes of the crimes the team has to solve.

Judging from the synopsis, the title "Troll" may instead refer to the criminal or criminal organization intentionally insulting the investigative team or it could simply be a play on words because of the episode's focus on a cyber-crime. More details will emerge once the episode airs.

While it has not be officially announced, the two back-to-back episodes may tie together with the season's untitled finale which will air on May 12.

Episode 22, "Troll," is written by series veteran Scott Williams and directed by Dennis Smith.
