'Kingdom Hearts III' release date news: launch window decided internally, may be at D23 Japan 2015

Kingdom Hearts III Disney/Square-Enix

Tetsuya Nomura, the game director for "Kingdom Hearts III," recently divulged details about the upcoming game to gaming magazines Famitsu and Dengeki Playstation and were later posted to gaming site GamesTalk. A translation of some of the key points in the interviews were later posted by Gematsu. One of these key points is the game's release schedule.

According to Gematsu, Nomura explained that a release window for "Kingdom Hearts III" has been decided internally but the team can't say anything to the public for the time being. The report does not state why there is an embargo on the game's release schedule.

However, the report says that Square Enix might finally make the announcement regarding the game's release come the D23 Expo in Japan, which is scheduled to open in Nov. 6. A "Kingdom Hearts III" fan event is scheduled for Nov. 3.

A specific release date might not be given but the team might be able to share a broad release window where the release date might fall into.

At the moment, the game has a New Year's Eve placeholder release date on retail sites such as Amazon. This is not the real release date and is simply there to indicate the game is going to be released soon and to allow customers to pre-order online.

The report also reiterates some of the gameplay details in the trailer featured at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015, such as the Free Run mechanic in which Sora is now capable of wall-running and wall-jumping, the return of the classic "Attack" and "Magic" commands instead of a card-based combat system, and the confirmation that the world of Disney's "Tangled" is in the game.

"Kingdom Hearts III" also officially ends the storyline of the villain Xehanort. However, the information from the report also explains that the series will continue, possibly moving on to another trilogy that will focus on another villain or even on side characters featured in the first three games.
