Huawei Mate 9 release date, specs: three variants to make their debut on Nov. 3

Huawei has sent out invites for a Nov. 3 press event, leading to speculations of the launch of the new flagship, Mate 9. Meanwhile, it is expected that the Huawei Mate 9 will launch as a full lineup, with at least three variants under the series.

PlayfulDroid has published a supposed marketing poster for the upcoming Huawei Mate 9. Based on the image, the new flagship will be offered in at least three configurations. The base model will have 4 GB of RAM, and it can be configured with either a 64- or 128-GB onboard storage. Meanwhile, the third version is a premium Mate 9 phablet, with massive 6 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. All the three variants will run with the new Kirin 960 chipset.

Meanwhile, aside from the three specs configurations, the Mate 9 is also rumored to be coming out in at least eight color options. Based on the promo image, however, the top-tier, 6-GB RAM version will have the complete color selection, including the exclusive black Huawei Mate 9. The base model with 64 GB will only be offered in three colors: Silver, Gold, and Gray.

Although it is expected that the Mate 9 will debut early next month, Huawei has yet to come out with confirmed details of the new flagship. Speculations suggest that aside from a Kirin 960 chipset and different RAM variants, the new flagship will feature a 5.9-inch QHD display with 2K resolution, a fingerprint scanner, and the Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box.

It is also believed that Huawei will be featuring a dual camera setup on the Mate 9. However, with conflicting supposed leaks, it is unclear if the dual cam feature of the upcoming flagship will have the same assembly as the current-generation P9 flagship, meaning a dual cam setup co-engineered with imaging tech maker Leica.
