The aftermath of the near-fatal attack on Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) will be explored in "Hawaii Five-0" season 7.

In the sixth season finale, Steve and Danny Williams (Scott Caan) became undercover drug pilots for Dae Wan (Sung Kang). But their plane was attacked by an unknown helicopter. This injured Steve severely, and the doctors required to perform an emergency operation to replace his ruptured liver with Danny's healthy one.

The surgery went successful. But it does not mean that the incident will leave Steve unscathed.

Based on the Instagram post of showrunner Peter Lenkov, which revealed a part of the script for the premiere episode of the upcoming season, Steve will be bound in a wheelchair in season 7. However, the showrunner did not reveal if the Hawaii Five-0 lieutenant commander will remain in the wheelchair for a long time.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lenkov said Steve will begin to reflect about his life after he survived the deadly attack.

"He's going to look back and say, 'What's my legacy here? I almost died, and what do I have? I've lost my father, I've lost my mother, I've lost the woman that I've loved.' He just starts to reflect on everything, the choices that he's made and looks for a reason to continue doing what he's doing," the showrunner said. "That's going to play a little bit of a theme next year. McGarrett may be being a little more aware of his mortality, and also his legacy of what am I going to leave behind?"

The showrunner also revealed that the season will begin less than four months after the events of the fifth season finale, which means that Kono Kalakaua (Grace Park) will still have enough time to fulfill her promise to her husband Adam (Ian Anthony Dale) in the previous season.

"Hawaii Five-O" season 7 is expected to premiere this fall.
