Harry Styles on ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift: 'Relationships are hard'

Every time Taylor Swift got a new beau, it would always end up on the headlines. However, the relationship that caused the most attention was with One Direction member, Harry Styles, back in 2012. And while Swift may have already poured her heart out through a couple of breakup songs she dedicated to him, Styles has not been exactly vocal about their time together, nor his relationships in general.

Recently, he had a sit-down with Rolling Stone, and surprisingly, he finally opened up about his past romance with Swift, and the young singer had a lot to say.

Apparently, he was surprised when photos of him and Swift at Central Park made news around the world. It was their second date. "When I see photos from that day, I think: Relationships are hard, at any age," he started. "And adding in that you don't really understand exactly how it works when you're 18, trying to navigate all that stuff didn't make it easier. I mean, you're a little bit awkward to begin with. You're on a date with someone you really like. It should be that simple, right?"

Even though he admits that it was a learning experience, he also said that he just wanted it to be a "normal" date. As with Swift's popular breakup songs, Styles is pretty much aware that "Style" and "Out of the Woods" were considered by the fans to be referring to their relationship.

However, he seems to hold no grudge toward the female singer, and even admires how she writes her songs. "I mean, I don't know if they're about me or not, but the issue is, she's so good, they're bloody everywhere. I write from my experiences; everyone does that. I'm lucky if everything [we went through] helped create those songs. That's what hits your heart," he said, adding that these things are what he finds difficult to talk about.

Style and Swift had a brief relationship in the past. The two reportedly split after a month of dating, due to a big fight that they had while they were on holiday in the British Virgin Islands. This resulted in Swift flying back to the United States on her own.
