'Gotham' season 1 spoilers: Joker's appearance begins, waiting game for episode 19

After killing his mother, everyone would like to know how Jerome will eventually turn out to be the Joker in the next installments of Gotham. Facebook

Joker's beginnings is out as "Gotham" has finally introduced the character who will eventually become Batman's mortal enemy. The would-be Joker character was first seen in the 16th episode of the series titled "The Blind Fortune Teller."

Series creator Bruno Heller earlier teased that the episode would showcase Joker before he becomes the most evil clown that Gotham City will ever know. The villain starts off as a young circus employee named Jerome Valeska, portrayed by actor Cameron Monaghan.

However, fans might not see him back in the show for a while. In an interview with CBR News, Monaghan talked about the future of his role in the franchise.

"When I was on set, we discussed the possibility of me coming back in the second or third season," Monaghan shared. "Nothing is set in stone yet. I think the producers have a firm plan for what they want to do, but I was not privy to it while I was filming. I would love to come back and do some more."

The actor also mentioned that he is interested to know where the "Gotham" writers would take Jerome's story, before he ultimately becomes the make-up wearing clown whose evil schemes seem to come from a bottomless pit.

At the moment, "Gotham" is on a  hiatus. The series aired the latest episode titled "Everyone Has a Cobblepot" on March 2 before embarking on quite a long break. Once "Gotham" returns next month, it will feature the last four episodes of the first season. However, FOX and the show's writers are still mum about the plot of its next episodes leading to the finale.

Will fans learn more about the other villains that Batman has to face in the next episodes of "Gotham"?  Viewers will find out when the series returns with the still untitled episode 19 on April 13.
