'Fixer Upper' finale: Chip and Joanna Gaines look forward to 'gift from God'

Home renovation series "Fixer Upper" had its final run Thursday night on HGTV after five seasons, but hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines have a lot to look forward to in the next chapter of their lives.

Joanna, who is pregnant with the couple's fifth child, posted in her blog that it was time to end "Fixer Upper" and move on. The priority for now is her condition, which she said feels like a first-time pregnancy all over again.

"Since I had our first four babies so close to one another, none of them actually remember me being pregnant," Joanna said. "I truly believe this baby is a gift from God for our family in this season."

The Gaines family has a strong religious foundation and believes that their marriage and careers have God's guidance. Chip also revealed that he's "not the best version of himself" without God and looks to his faith for how he relates to his wife, his kids and the community.

The couple does not want to impose their beliefs on anyone but they courted controversy with their closeness to Pastor Jimmy Siebert of the Antioch Community Church in Waco, Texas. An article published on Buzzfeed accused the couple of being "anti-gay" because their church opposes same-sex relationships.

Fans, however, said that the Chip and Joanna's faith is a non-issue and hardly controversial. Some, however, alluded that this pushed the couple to end their series after five years.

But the couple announced the end of "Fixer Upper" in September 2017 and expressed that they needed to take a break and focus on their growing family and business. The Gaines, however, aren't completely leaving HGTV altogether and fans will still see Joanna on television in a half-hour show "Behind the Design."

The new series will premiere on April 10 in the same time slot as "Fixer Upper" on Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. It will run for 15 episodes.
