'Fear the Walking Dead' season 2 release date, spoilers: No underwater zombies

Fear the Walking Dead AMC

"Fear the Walking Dead" season 1 ended with the group heading over to the sea aboard Victor Strand's (Colman Domingo) ship. Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Dave Erickson gave a little insight on what fans can expect for the second season and revealed that there won't be zombies walking under water.

"My understanding is that walkers can't swim," he explained. He then goes on to state that in the flagship series, there was an instance where the Governor (David Morrissey) killed a person and later threw their corpse into the lake. Later on that corpse turns into a walker and tries to reach out but is apparently being dragged down to the bottom.

"I have to confirm this with Robert Kirkman but walkers can't swim - I'm sure they'd eventually bloat," he states.

This would be a different take on how zombies react with water when compared to "Land of the Dead," directed by iconic zombie-film director George Romero. During the events of the film, zombies discover that they cannot drown and eventually cross a deep river in order to attack the humans residing on the other side.

However, just because walkers won't be able to walk under water doesn't mean they won't be a threat to the crew on the ship.

Robert Kirkman did explain previously that there will be reasons for the main characters to get off the boat and it is heavily speculated by fans that other people trying to find sanctuary at sea may be a bigger threat and may even use walkers against other people in a form of sea warfare.

"The Walking Dead" has shown several instances of the characters going out on supply runs and it is also possible that "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 will see the characters stepping down back on land to hunt for food, water, medication and weapons, leaving them open to walkers or malevolent humans invading their ship.

"Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 is expected to premiere in fall 2016.
